Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes broke his silence over his severe 10-match FIFA suspension, labeling the punishment "exaggerated" while questioning the leniency shown to Spain's Gavi.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee handed Paredes a massive 10-game ban following a post-match brawl after Argentina's 1-0 World Cup final defeat to Spain in New Jersey on July 19.

Paredes was penalized for grabbing Spanish defender Eric Garcia by the neck and confronting Gavi.

Speaking to reporters after a domestic match for Boca Juniors, Paredes lashed out at the decision.

"The punishment seems exaggerated to me," Paredes said. "The strange thing is that Gavi received only a one-match ban, even though he punched me in the chest."

The brawl resulted in multiple disciplinary actions against the Argentine side:

Leandro Paredes: Banned for 10 matches.

Nahuel Molina: Banned for seven matches for striking Rodri.

Roberto Ayala (Assistant Coach): Banned for three matches for punching Dani Olmo.

Thiago Almada: Banned for one match.

Gavi previously claimed that FIFA should not have banned Paredes or his teammates.

However, Paredes and his suspended compatriots received crucial relief after FIFA granted an appeal from the Argentine Football Association (AFA).

FIFA ruled that the players can serve their suspensions during Category 'A' international friendlies, rather than strictly during competitive World Cup qualifiers.

With two international windows remaining this year, Argentina could play up to six matches.

This ruling allows Paredes to clear a major portion of his 10-match ban during upcoming friendlies, even if a formal appeal fails to reduce the penalty.
