Measles claimes 4 more lives

Four more people died with measles symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) regular measles report issued on Sunday.

The report said the deaths occurred between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday. With these fatalities, 868 people have died with measles symptoms since March 15, while 99 deaths have been confirmed as measles-related. The combined death toll now stands at 967.

The DGHS’s regular statistics do not provide age-wise data. Epidemiologists say measles can affect people of all ages, although children are more vulnerable. During an outbreak, all deaths involving measles symptoms are considered measles-related deaths.
