Indictment hearing in Hossain murder case against Hasina, 33 others deferred

A Dhaka court on Tuesday deferred the hearing on charge framing against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others in the murder case of truck driver Md Hossain during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Judge Md Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 fixed September 24 for the next hearing.

Prosecutor M. Anisur Rahman said the hearing was postponed as former state minister Zunayed Ahmed Palak, who is in jail in the case, had been taken to the International Crimes Tribunal and could not be produced before the court.

Hossain, a truck driver, was shot dead in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on July 19, 2024, while returning home after leaving his truck in Gabtoli.

His mother, Rina Begum, filed the murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 31, 2024. Police later submitted a charge sheet against 34 people, including Hasina, on November 23, 2025.

Twenty accused, including Hasina, are absconding. The court issued arrest warrants against them on January 26. Four accused, including Palak and former MP Sadek Khan, are in jail, while 10 others are out on bail.
