Six killed in road mishaps in two districts

Six people were killed and at least 23 others injured in separate road accidents in Jamalpur and Netrakona districts on Monday.
JAMALPUR: Four people were killed and at least 20 others injured on Monday night when a bus collided with a battery-powered auto-rickshaw on the Mymensingh-Jamalpur highway near an Eidgah field in the Lahirikanda area of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila on Monday night.
According to police and local residents, a Dhaka-bound Rajib Paribahan bus from Jamalpur collided with the auto-rickshaw travelling in the opposite direction, leaving four killed on the spot and 20 injured. Local residents recovered the bodies from the scene and took the injured to Jamalpur General Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station (PS) Nazmus Sakib confirmed the accident and said police recovered the bodies.
NETRAKONA: Two people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, were killed and at least three others injured on Monday evening when a truck struck the three-wheeler at Chandpara on the Kendua-Netrakona road in Kendua Upazila of the district on Monday evening.
The deceased were auto-rickshaw driver Wajid Mia, 40, and passenger Liza Akter, 39, both residents of Kendua Upazila.
According to police and local residents, the auto-rickshaw was travelling toward Kendua from Rampur Bazar with several passengers when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction struck it. The truck fled the scene, leaving Wajid and Liza dead on the spot and three other passengers injured. They were taken to Netrakona District Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Kendua PS OC Mohammad Tariqul Islam confirmed the deaths and said authorities would take necessary legal action after consulting the victims’ families.
