End of gas, power squeeze in sight for industries: Rizvi

Adequate gas and electricity supply to mills and factories will be ensured within the next one to one-and-a-half weeks, BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said.

He made the remarks at a tree plantation programme organised by Dhaka North City BNP in the capital’s 300 Feet area on Wednesday, marking the BNP’s founding anniversary.

Rizvi said the ongoing energy crisis was not caused solely by the government, as various global factors were also responsible. However, he said the government was taking necessary steps to ease the crisis, particularly by restoring normal fuel supplies to industries.

“The situation at the gas terminal in Maheshkhali has already improved considerably. The country’s gas crisis will be resolved soon,” he said.

He said the government was taking measures to ensure adequate fuel supplies to industries and factories, expressing hope that the crisis affecting industrial production and trade would gradually ease.

Rizvi also said the government had allocated Tk 40,000 crore for purchasing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and was allocating the necessary funds to ensure energy supplies.
