Tangail job fair opens doors for over 2,000 youths

TANGAIL, Sept 3:  A job fair organised by the Tangail district administration has opened up employment opportunities for more than 2,000 young people, offering a rare boost to educated jobseekers in the district.

At the day-long ‘Job Fair-2026’, 446 young men and women secured jobs on the spot, while another 1,581 candidates shortlisted for vacant positions are expected to receive appointments within a month.

The fair was held at the Janaseba Chattar in front of the Tangail Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday, drawing 11,427 registered jobseekers.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, also MP for Tangail-5 Constituency, attended the event as the chief guest and handed over appointment letters to some of those hired on the spot.

The event, organised for the first time by the district administration, brought together jobseekers and employers from 51 corporate organisations, including leading NGOs and commercial firms.

Candidates submitted their CVs both online and offline before attending interviews directly at the fair. Those selected based on merit received job offers on the spot.

According to district administration officials, 11,427 people registered for the fair through online and offline channels. Following interviews, 446 candidates were recruited immediately, while the final recruitment process for another 1,581 shortlisted candidates will be completed within the next month.

The initiative has been hailed by officials and participants as a new avenue for employment for educated youths in Tangail and a model that could be replicated in other districts.

Speaking at the event, State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said the fair was initially planned on a smaller scale but had received an overwhelming response.

“Within the next six months, we will take steps to organise it on a much larger scale, Inshallah,” he said.

“I said even before the election that I would work to ensure that no educated youth in Tangail remains unemployed,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque said many educated people seeking employment had approached her at different times.
“She said she discussed the matter with the state minister, who responded positively to the idea of organising a job fair. The event was subsequently arranged with his advice and support,” she said.
