DEBIGANJ, PANCHAGARH, Oct 3: State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad has said he does not want to be honoured by teachers, rather he wants the entire teaching community to be honoured for their role in shaping people’s lives.

“I do not want to be honoured by you. Rather, I want to honour the entire teaching community, as teachers spend their entire lives shaping people,” he said.

The state minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a reception organised by the Teachers-Employees Unity Council at Debiganj in Panchagarh on Saturday afternoon.

The programme was held at the Debiganj Women’s Degree College ground and chaired by Md Rezaul Islam, President of the council’s upazila unit. Its general secretary Nure Alam Tutul moderated the event.

Azad said teachers face various hardships and limitations and that the government has plans to address their problems.

He said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was working to bring non-MPO educational institutions under the MPO scheme and nationalise them.

Emphasising technical and vocational education, the state minister said children should receive technical and vocational training alongside general education.

Azad also urged teachers to play a leading role in keeping young people free from drugs.
