A young man named Rocky Hossain (23) was arrested by locals over possession of a foreign pistol, a ram-dao, and a Molotov cocktail, was handed over to the police, but not before creating panic in Daulatpur, Kushtia.

At that time, the locals had already beaten him black and blue, before the police rescued him from the scene and admitted him to Daulatpur Hospital for treatment.
The incident took place on Saturday (September 5) night in the Sirajnagar Beltola area of Philipnagar Union of the upazila. Rocky Hossain, the boy who was arrested, is the son of the deceased Bazlur Rahman of that area.

Locals claim that due to the increase in the number of drug addicts and drug dealers in the Sirajnagar area, there has been an air of frustration lingering for a long time. In response, the locals held a protest march against drug addicts and drug dealers last Friday night.

In continuation of this, locals received news on Saturday night that some people were involved in drug use and sale in a bamboo garden in Sirajnagar. When the locals later went there, it was alleged that Rocky Hossain and his companions exploded several cocktails and fired blank shots, spreading chaos and panic in the surrounding area. Though successful, this would backfire on Rocky.

Later, when the locals chased them, Rocky Hossain was accosted along with his weapons. At that time, the agitated crowd thrashed hi, essentially beating him to a bruised pulp.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the Daulatpur police station went to the spot and rescued Rocky Hossain, who was in an injured state. They later recovered a foreign pistol, a ram-dao and a cocktail from his person, the police said.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur police station, Khaledur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that the locals accosted a young man named Rocky Hossain for carrying weapons and cocktails, and thrashed him before handing him over to the police, who rescued him at the spot. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex.

The OC also said that necessary legal proceedings have been initiated regarding the recovered weapons and explosives. Whether anyone else is involved in the incident is under investigation.
