BGB seeks public support to curb border crimes

DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA, Sept 7:  Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has held a public awareness meeting in Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia to increase local people’s involvement in preventing border crimes, including smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal crossings.

As part of its regular awareness activities, the Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) organised the meeting with border residents on the premises of Kharijathak High School under the Char Chilamari Border Outpost (BOP) on Sunday.

Lt Col Rashed Kamal Rony, SUP, PSC, Commanding Officer of the Kushtia Battalion, attended the meeting and urged residents to remain alert during sudden floods and refrain from illegal border crossings, smuggling, drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.

He also asked locals to remain vigilant about the movements of unfamiliar or suspicious people and not to assist or shelter any Indian national entering Bangladesh illegally.

He urged residents to immediately inform the nearest BGB camp if they notice any illegal activity in the border area.

“The border is not the sole responsibility of the BGB. Awareness and sincere cooperation from border residents are crucial to maintaining security and a peaceful environment,” he said.

He also called on people to follow the country’s laws and regulations and play a more responsible role in preventing border crimes.

“Peace, security and discipline along the border can be strengthened through mutual trust, cooperation and cordial relations between the BGB and border communities,” he said.

Local representatives, prominent citizens and people from different professions attended the meeting.
