Two more died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from confirmed measles to 100 and deaths from measles-like symptoms to 899 this year. The combined death toll now stands at 999.
A total of 186,296 people have been infected with measles or developed measles-like symptoms so far this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its regular health bulletin on Tuesday.
It said that one person each died with measles symptoms in Barishal and Sylhet divisions between 8am Monday and 8am Tuesday.
A total of 1,157 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Monday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 166,461.
During the same period, 79 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 19,835.
According to DGHS data, 146,359 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15 this year. Of them, 140,850 have recovered and been discharged.
