Training of trainers begins for family card programme

A two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme for officials involved in the nationwide Family Card programme began today at the Madhumati Auditorium of the Department of Social Services. The programme will conclude tomorrow.

Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, MP, inaugurated the training as the chief guest, while State Minister for Social Welfare Barrister Farzana Sharmin, MP, attended as a special guest.

Addressing the event, Minister Zahid said the Family Card programme is a priority initiative of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the government. He stressed that accurate data collection is the foundation of the programme and called for proper training of data collectors and supervisors.

“Your responsibility will not be limited to providing training. You will also have to play an important role in ensuring the smooth implementation of Family Card distribution at the field level,” he said.

State Minister Farzana Sharmin described the Family Card as one of the government’s most important projects, aimed at reaching around 15 million families across Bangladesh.

She said the information collected must be accurate and transparent, as it would be used not only for Family Cards but also to develop an integrated government database. The database could help identify people eligible for other government services and prevent duplicate benefit claims and irregularities.

Director General of the Department of Social Services Shah Mohammad Mahbub chaired the programme. Social Welfare Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf was also present.
