Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has detained two smugglers along with 35,000 kg of urea fertilizer while it was being smuggled to Myanmar, following a raid in the Banshbaria Ghat area of Sitakunda Police Station of Chattogram.
Three trucks used for transporting the fertilizer were also seized during the operation. The estimated market value of the seized fertilizer is Tk 24 lakh 50 thousand.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan disclosed this information on Thursday.
He stated that a special operation was conducted based on a tip-off in the area adjacent to Banshbaria Ghat under Sitakunda Police Station.
During the operation, two smugglers were detained along with 700 sacks (35,000 kg) of urea fertilizer and three trucks used for the smuggling; the seizure occurred while the fertilizer was being transferred from the trucks to a cargo boat for illegal transport to Myanmar.
Legal proceedings regarding the seized fertilizer, the trucks used in the smuggling, and the detained individuals are currently underway.
He added that the Coast Guard would continue to conduct such operations in the future to curb smuggling.
