Nowadays, Bangladesh’s peak electricity demand has reached 19,027 megawatts. Against this backdrop, uncertainty over gas supplies, dependence on imports and rising electricity generation costs pose significant risks to meeting the growing electricity demand.

Dependence on imported fossil fuels, with prices largely determined in US dollars, has become one of the biggest challenges facing the energy sector.

Experts said that Bangladesh has been facing a serious energy crisis because she has not been able to make proper use of its own capabilities, as the country has repeatedly relied on outside assistance to address domestic problems.

Policymakers, energy specialists and academics discuss the current challenges facing Bangladesh’s electricity and energy sector and their possible solutions. The government also focuses on identifying the country’s energy challenges.

It has planned to cut the cost of energy and announced a special incentive package for the installation of rooftop solar power systems, including battery storage, as part of a wider drive to expand renewable energy and strengthen the country’s long-term energy security.
