Two Dhaka Central Jail inmates die within hours

Two inmates of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj died after falling ill on Sunday, according to prison authorities.

Abdul Barek, 70, a convict, died early Sunday while undergoing treatment at the CCU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was taken there after falling ill at the jail on Friday night. His convict number was 300/26. He was the son of the late Abdul Khalek and hailed from Netrokona. 

Authorities could not provide details of the case in which he was imprisoned.

Hospital police camp Inspector Habibur Rahman said Barek’s body was kept at the morgue for autopsy, which will be conducted after an inquest in the presence of an executive magistrate.

Meanwhile, Abdul Mabud, 58, a detainee, was taken to the hospital around 12:30pm after suddenly falling ill at the jail around 11:30am. Doctors declared him dead. His detainee number was 331/26. He was the son of Abdul Sobahan of Hamimpur under Chandanaish Police Station in Chattogram.

Mabud’s inquest and autopsy will also be conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate.
