Dhaka College Chhatra Dal removes roadside shops

Dhaka College unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Sunday conducted an eviction drive to clear illegal roadside shops in front of the college as part of a dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign.

The drive was carried out around 6pm on Mirpur Road in front of the college’s main gate. Some shops occupying the footpath were demolished and set on fire during the drive.

Mehedi Hasan, joint convener of Dhaka College Chhatra Dal, said unregulated hawkers in front of the college were damaging the campus environment and creating dengue risks through stagnant water and accumulated waste.

He said the eviction and cleaning drive was conducted to maintain the campus environment, prevent waterlogging and reduce the risk of dengue.

He said Chhatra Dal had taken a three-day dengue awareness programme across educational institutions nationwide following a call by Tarique Rahman.

As part of the programme, Dhaka College Chhatra Dal held a preparatory meeting and an awareness rally on Sunday.

Earlier, the college unit held a coordination meeting at the Dhaka College auditorium at 4pm and announced a three-day programme to prevent dengue on the campus.

Chhatra Dal has announced dengue prevention and cleanliness drives at educational institutions across the country on Sunday and Monday, September 13 and 14.
