Stop Looting Expatriates at Airports

Dear Sir,

Our expatriate workers make a tremendous contribution to our economy through their hard-earned remittances, which help keep the national economy moving and maintain economic stability. Yet many face harassment, unnecessary complications and other difficulties when leaving the country, while some encounter similar treatment or even theft after returning home through our airports. This is a matter of great shame and concern.

Recently, such incidents have been highlighted in the media. Some returning expatriate passengers reportedly face demands for tips or unofficial payments from guards, staff and security personnel, even for minor services. Video footage has also emerged showing the distress of an expatriate passenger whose luggage was allegedly broken into and valuable belongings stolen. These incidents cause immense suffering and tarnish the country’s image.

Therefore, I urge the relevant authorities to strengthen airport monitoring and protect expatriate passengers’ dignity and belongings. Anyone found involved in harassment, extortion, theft or abuse of authority should face appropriate legal punishment.
