AMTALI, BARGUNA, Sept 13: At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two groups over a land dispute in Chhotonilganj Village of Amtali Sadar Union on Sunday morning.
The clash erupted around 9 am when supporters of Jalil Gazi went to plough about 10 bighas of disputed land and were allegedly stopped by supporters of Pasha Hawladar. The two sides then clashed, attacking each other with locally made weapons, including machetes.
The injured, including Pasha Hawladar, 46, Jalil Gazi, 48, and several others, were admitted to Amtali Upazila Health Complex. Medical Officer Dr Luna Binte Haque said they received necessary treatment.
Both sides claimed the other violated court orders and attacked them while attempting to cultivate the disputed land. Pasha Hawladar said a court case over the property is pending, while Jalil Gazi's side said they were cultivating land inherited by them and covered by a court ruling.
Officer-in-Charge of Amtali Police Station Mohammad Yakub Hossain said no complaint had yet been filed and legal action would be taken if a complaint is received.
