2 killed in road mishaps in 2 dists

Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Gopalganj District and Tongi of Gazipur District in two days.

GOPALGANJ: An oil-laden Nasimon driver was killed after his vehicle fell into a roadside ditch in Gopalganj’s Kashiani Upazila on Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred around noon in the Hiranyakandi area on the Joynagar-Kashiani road when the vehicle lost control while travelling from Joynagar to Kashiani. The driver, Md Russell Sheikh, 30, son of Rafiqul Islam of Shasonia Village in Muksudpur Upazila, was critically injured and taken by locals to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station (PS) Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman confirmed the death and said the body will be handed over to the family after legal formalities.

TONGI, GAZIPUR: A 50-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a covered van struck his motorcycle from behind in the Majukhan area of Pubail on the Tongi-Kaliganj regional road at around 8 pm on Saturday, police said.

The victim, Jasim Uddin, a resident of Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj District, was critically injured and taken to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Pubail PS OC Md Atiqur Rahman said legal action was being processed in connection with the accident.
