Four police officers were injured when relatives of a drug case accused allegedly attacked them while they were attempting to arrest him in Melandaha, Jamalpur, on Monday evening.

The incident occurred in Char No 2 of Shyampur Union, said Melandaha Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge ATM Mahmudul Haque.

The injured officers are Sub-Inspector Himon, 34, Assistant Sub-Inspector Awar, 37, police officer Abu Raihan, 40, and Constable Abu Taher, 29.

According to police, the officers went to the area to arrest warrant-listed accused Enamul Haque, 30, son of Abdul Quddus, in a drug case.

After arresting Enamul, his family members allegedly obstructed the officers and attempted to free him. They reportedly became involved in a scuffle with the police and assaulted them, leaving all four injured.

With the help of local residents, police brought the situation under control and arrested Enamul and his wife, Sabuj Begum. They were taken to the police station.

Sub-Inspector Himon was sent to Jamalpur General Hospital, while the other three officers were receiving treatment at Melandaha Upazila Health Complex.

OC ATM Mahmudul Haque confirmed that four officers were injured while attempting to arrest the warrant-listed accused. He said legal proceedings were underway.
