Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has been named champion in the university category at the Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026, emerging as the best among all public and private universities in the country for its outstanding achievements in research, innovation and creativity.

The first-ever Bangladesh Innovation Fair, organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, was held at Novo Theatre in Dhaka from September 12 to 14 under the theme Innovate to Market.

The recognition adds another milestone to GAUs growing national and international reputation, following its strong positions in global university rankings, including those of Times Higher Education (THE), QS and the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). The achievement came under the dynamic and visionary leadership of GAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman.

Expressing satisfaction over the honour, the VC said the award was the result of the collective effort and tireless work of the university’s innovators, students, teachers, officers, employees, researchers and field-level teams. He expressed hope that GAUs innovations would contribute to the modernisation and sustainable development of Bangladesh’s agriculture sector, strengthen food and agricultural security and support the national vision of building a Prosperous Bangladesh.

Nearly all public and private universities took part in the fair, showcasing more than 1,000 innovations and technologies. GAU displayed 12 selected innovations from its portfolio of 97 developed varieties and more than 20 technologies, focusing particularly on agriculture, research and food security. The university’s innovations drew considerable attention from visitors, industry entrepreneurs and policymakers for their scientific value, practical applicability, creativity and commercial potential.

In the comparative assessment, GAUs technologies were considered among the more promising and public-oriented innovations. At the closing ceremony on September 14, GAU was declared champion in the university category.

Professor Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning, and Md Anwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, handed the crest of recognition to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman in the presence of other GAU innovators.

The fair seeks to bridge the gap between university research, industry and the market, creating commercial opportunities for research-based technologies and bringing home-grown innovations into people’s lives and the economy an important step towards transforming Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy.
