Iranian strikes damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and structures at US military bases across the Middle East during the conflict, according to a report by the US Department of Defense’s inspector general.

The report, submitted to Congress, said the US military also lost several aircraft, including four F-15 fighter jets, while one F-35 and seven KC-135 tanker aircraft were damaged or destroyed. Up to 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones were also destroyed.

The report covers Operation Epic Fury from February 28 to June 30. It estimated the cost of the US military operation at $33.4 billion, including $22.3 billion spent on munitions.

It said the heavy use of munitions had caused strategic inventory shortfalls and exposed bottlenecks in the defence industrial base for replenishing supplies.

Iranian attacks damaged or destroyed hundreds of structures at US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan, according to the report.

The report also recorded 14 US military deaths and 417 combat-related injuries during the reporting period.

US diplomatic facilities in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE also suffered damage. The report estimated damage to diplomatic facilities at about $184 million.
