Adequate urea fertiliser stocks available at factories, buffer warehouses: BCIC Chief 

BCIC Chairman (Additional Secretary) Dr Mahmudur Rahman inspected BCIC fertiliser warehouses located in Nilphamari, Mahendranagar in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts on Monday. 

During the inspection, the stockpiled fertiliser was counted by individual stacks in the presence of representatives of the local district administration and the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). The physical count confirmed the accuracy of the recorded stock.

The chairman said the country’s demand for urea fertiliser up to November 2026 can be met with the fertiliser currently stored in the warehouses. 

In addition, three local fertiliser factories are producing 5,000 metric tonnes of urea per day, while urea imports from abroad are also continuing. These supplies will be used to meet fertiliser demand during the upcoming peak season.

As sufficient stocks of urea fertiliser are available in the country, he urged farmers and stakeholders not to panic over rumours or misleading information.

Fertiliser was being supplied to dealers from BCIC factories and buffer warehouses on time according to demand.

After the inspection, the BCIC chairman attended a (exchange-of-views meeting) at the conference room of the Kurigram Deputy Commissioner with the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Deputy Director of DAE, all Upazila Nirbahi Officers, agriculture officers, leaders of the Bangladesh Fertilizer Association (BFA), and fertiliser dealers.

He called on the local administration to strengthen monitoring so that vested interests could not create an artificial fertiliser shortage, drive up fertiliser prices, or spread misinformation and rumours at the local level.

To ensure smooth distribution of fertiliser to farmers through dealers, one tag officer has been appointed at each factory and buffer warehouse. Fertiliser distribution from the warehouses is being maintained seven days a week, including Fridays and Saturdays, and the process is being regularly monitored centrally by BCIC.

During the inspection, BCIC Director (Planning and Implementation) Md Khairuzzaman and Senior General Manager (Marketing) Md Manzur Reza were also present.
