Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has turned international diplomacy into a viral social media sensation by scoring his official state visit to India with iconic Bollywood songs.
Replacing traditional summit clips with a curated musical lineup, the Malaysian leader shared an Instagram reel documenting his reception by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, set to the classic 1995 romantic ballad "Tujhe Dekha To Yeh Jana Sanam" from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
The viral video quickly sparked widespread online discussion, with observers praising the creative blend of high-level geopolitics and popular cinema culture under what many are calling "Song Diplomacy."
Prime Minister Ibrahim deployed several other Bollywood hits throughout his India trip highlights. His bilateral exchange with Narendra Modi was accompanied by the title track of "Dil To Pagal Hai", while his BRICS summit plenary session was set to the title song from "Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega".
Additionally, his luncheon with Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi featured "Aisa Des Hai Mera" from Veer-Zaara, and his official departure from India was paired with the patriotic track "Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe" from Lakshya.
This unconventional diplomatic strategy follows a similar gesture during Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official visit to Malaysia, where Ibrahim featured Habib Wahid's popular track "Mohajadu" in a welcoming video highlight.
