Noakhali Jubo League chief arrested from home

A team from Sudharam Model Police Station conducted a raid at "Bhatt Kuthir" in Ward 1 around 8:00 PM on Tuesday and took him into custody, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam.

Emon Bhatt, son of Dukhaharan Bhatt, has been serving as the president of Noakhali District Jubo League since 2022. Prior to this role, he held positions as the general secretary and president of the district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, and later served as the general secretary of the district Jubo League.

His brother, Mithun Bhatt, serves as the general secretary of the Noakhali Town unit of the Awami League.

Family members stated that Emon went into hiding following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. He had returned home on Tuesday morning to visit his ailing young daughter after remaining in hiding before police raided the residence later that evening.

According to police sources, members of the banned Jubo League organization held a sudden flash procession in the Whitehall area of Noakhali Municipality on Monday morning, with allegations indicating that Emon funded the activity.

Sudharam Model Police Station OC Nazrul Islam added that Emon also faces charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
