BNP Standing Committee member and Prime Minister’s political adviser Mirza Abbas left Dhaka  for Malaysia on Wednesday for a routine medical check-up.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, carrying Abbas  and his wife, departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 11:45AM.

Mirza Abbas returned to Bangladesh on September 2 after spending more than five months in Singapore and Malaysia for medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The BNP leader suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness while having iftar at his Shahjahanpur residence in Dhaka on March 11. He was initially taken to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka and later flown to Singapore on March 15 for advanced treatment.

He was subsequently taken to Malaysia for specialised medical care and rehabilitation.

Abbas is currently a member of parliament from Dhaka-8. Besides serving on the BNP Standing Committee, he is also the party’s political adviser to the prime minister.

He had remained largely away from political activities during his prolonged medical treatment. His return to the country earlier this month has opened the way for him to resume his political engagements.
