Discussion on protecting children from noise pollution held

PANCHAGARH, Sept 17: A discussion meeting was held here to protect children from noise pollution and promote noise awareness among families.

The district branch of Kachi Kantha Asar organised the discussion, titled “What families and children can do to protect children from noise pollution and create noise awareness,” at Anirban Vidyaniketan on Wednesday morning. More than 100 students, teachers and guardians attended the programme.

Anirban Vidyaniketan Principal Mamunur Rashid chaired the discussion, while Azharul Islam Jewel, President of the Panchagarh District branch of Kachi Kantha Asar, was present as the chief guest.

Speakers said excessive noise negatively affects children’s normal lives and attention. They called on families, educational institutions and society to raise awareness and urged teachers and guardians to discourage children from using high-volume devices, including earphones and headphones.

Chief guest Azharul Islam Jewel said enforcing laws alone is not enough to control noise pollution and that awareness must begin at home.

Among others, journalist Shafiqul Alam, secretary of the Panchagarh District branch of Kachi Kantha Asar and former president of the Panchagarh Press Club, Finance Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Panchagarh Press Club Lutfar Rahman, members Ansarul Islam and Habibur Rahman Habib were present. 

Students Atika Islam Ava and Nusafa Farin hosted the programme. Students Nadira Jahan Eva and Ahnaf Karim Sifat read noise-awareness leaflets, which were later distributed among students, teachers and guardians.
