A new chapter in Bangladesh’s combat sports history will begin on Friday (September 18) as the second edition of the Zulcan Fighting Championship (ZFC), titled “ZFC 2: Pride of Bangladesh,” gets underway at the Zulcan Indoor Arena at Bashundhara Sports City.

Organised by Tanvir Bashundhara Group (TBG), the international tournament will feature fighters from seven countries, including Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, the United States, Iran and Malaysia.

The tournament was officially announced at a press conference held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) on Thursday (September 17).

International fighters from the participating countries attended the event. The fighters also underwent official weigh-ins before facing off against their respective opponents.

A lively question-and-answer session with journalists and organisers followed the weigh-in ceremony. Ahmed Ibrahim Sobhan, managing director of Tanvir Bashundhara Group, was also present at the press conference.

Following the successful staging of “ZFC 1: The Takeover” in April, this year’s event will feature a total of 10 bouts, including five title fights.

One of the major attractions of the tournament will be Bangladesh’s first-ever bare-knuckle boxing bout. In the three-round contest, experienced American fighter Will Chope will take on Iran’s Mostafa Ashouri.

In the main event, Bangladesh’s Masjidul Reza Omio will face Thailand’s Thanapat Thittham in a five-round bout for the WMO Asia Muay Thai title.

The co-main event will see Sur Krishna Chakma of Bangladesh take on Indonesia’s Kundimang in a six-round ZFC Boxing title fight.

Bangladesh’s Muhammad Rashid will face Malaysia’s Erwandi Kalai in the ZFC Muay Thai title bout, while Singapore’s Sean Rafael Sani will fight Sirajul Rabbi for the ZFC Boxing title.

Other bouts include a pro-MMA contest between Manjur Alam and Indonesia’s Filipus Ranga.

In women’s professional boxing, Sanjida Jannat will face Malaysia’s Meredy Michael in a six-round bout.

In other professional boxing bouts, Rakib Hossain will take on Indonesia’s Dedy Imprax, while Gonadan Chakma will face Singapore’s Donovan McIntyre.

The opening bout of the day will be a women’s semi-pro Muay Thai contest between Gazi Arnaz and Shampa Islam.

Except for the women’s professional boxing bout, each round will last three minutes. The main event will have a two-minute interval between rounds, while the other bouts will have one-minute intervals.

According to TBG, the Zulcan Indoor Arena was built and the tournament organised with the aim of providing young Bangladeshi fighters with a world-class international platform and helping them represent the country on the global combat sports stage.
