Beckham backs Messi for ninth Ballon d’Or

Former England star David Beckham has backed Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or again, choosing the Argentine over his compatriot Harry Kane.

The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced on October 26, with Kane currently among the leading contenders after scoring 73 goals in 61 matches for Bayern Munich and England last season.

Messi, 39, scored eight goals as Argentina reached the World Cup final for a second straight time. He also helped Inter Miami win their first MLS Cup last year and recently guided the club to their first Campeones Cup title.
Speaking to Apple TV, Beckham said Messi’s World Cup performance at the age of 39 was “special” and that he deserved to be considered for the award.

“There are great players like Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, but when it comes to Leo, I am his biggest supporter,” Beckham said.
