Tile worker electrocuted by 11,000-volt line in Bheramara

A tile worker was electrocuted after coming into contact with an 11,000-volt power line while working at a building in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Md Sajid, son of Md Abdul Kalam of Purba Char Damukdia village.

The incident occurred around 3:45 PM in the Sholdag area under Bahirchar Union.

According to locals and the fire service, Sajid had been working on installing tiles on the balcony of the second floor of a three-storey building owned by Sujon Uddin Sojol for the past three days.

The electric pole was located about three and a half feet from the balcony. Sajid was working on a bamboo scaffold at a distance of around one and a half feet from the high-voltage power line when he came into contact with the live wire.

He remained suspended from the power line for nearly an hour after being electrocuted. Locals informed the fire service about 40 minutes after the incident.

Bheramara Fire Service Station Master Shafiqul Islam said they rushed to the spot after receiving the information and recovered Sajid's body within 10 minutes before handing it over to police.

Masum Parvez, residential engineer of WZPDCL, said the power lines had been installed according to the approved map. He warned that constructing buildings too close to high-voltage lines or working near 11,000-volt lines without adequate safety measures is extremely dangerous.

Bheramara Police Station SI Maidul Islam said police visited the scene and received the body from the fire service. Legal action will be taken if the deceased's family files a complaint.
