New pay scale offer Tk 3,000 monthy for special-needs children

Government employees will receive a monthly allowance of Tk 3,000 for each child with special needs under the proposed new pay structure, aimed at providing financial support for treatment, education, therapy and care.

The benefit is part of the proposed ninth pay scale, under which around 24 lakh government officials and employees and about 9.25 lakh pensioners are expected to receive revised benefits.

Officials of the Finance Ministry said there is currently no consolidated data on how many government employees have children with disabilities or special needs. The information will, however, be incorporated into the Integrated Budget and Accounting System (iBAS) to facilitate implementation of the allowance.

According to ministry officials, the monthly allowance is intended to help families meet part of the additional expenses associated with raising children with special needs. The money can be used for medical treatment, education, therapy and other necessary care.

The allowance is expected to provide some financial relief to families who face additional costs in supporting children with special needs.

However, the government has yet to finalise the detailed procedures for receiving the benefit. The eligibility criteria, documents or certificates required to establish a child’s special-needs status, and the application process for government employees will be determined through the relevant rules and administrative procedures.
