Actor Ziaul Faruk Apurba has expressed grief and anger over the killing of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Apotim in Cumilla, calling for children to be protected from violence.
In a social media post, Apurba, who is also a father, said recent reports of child killings had left him shocked both as a parent and an ordinary citizen.
“The repeated brutality against children, when every child has the basic right to grow up safely, reflects an extreme decline in our society and conscience,” he wrote.
Calling such violence “inhuman”, Apurba urged everyone to stand together against abuse and killings of children.
He also called on parents to remain more alert and vigilant to ensure their children’s safety both inside and outside the home.
“A little extra caution and attentive supervision may protect our loved ones from serious danger,” he said.
Apurba also called for the suspects in Apotim’s murder to be brought to justice quickly and given exemplary punishment.
“I strongly urge the administration to bring the killers to justice quickly and ensure exemplary punishment,” he wrote.
“We must make this country a safe place for our children. There can be no greater responsibility than this.”
He ended his post with a call for justice and a safe childhood for every child: “I want a safe childhood for every child. I want justice.”
