Ansar-VDP member found dead at Bagatipara

BAGATIPARA, NATORE, Sept 20: A 53-year-old Ansar-VDP member was found dead in a pond in Bagatipara Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The body of Shahjahan Ali, son of late Nader Ali of Chawk Koalipara Village, was recovered from a pond owned by Abdul Khalek in the Koalipara area of Sadar Union.

Locals said Shahjahan had been eating puffed rice with several others beside another pond around 11 pm on Friday before leaving for home. Khalek’s son Rafiqul Islam found Shahjahan’s shirt and sandals near a tree on the pond bank on Saturday morning. Family members later recovered his body from the water.

Shahjahan’s nephew said the victim was holding a flashlight when the body was recovered. Locals suspect he may have fallen into the pond while trying to collect dead fish floating on the water.
