JCD hands over 2 BCL men to police

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists handed over two banned Bangladesh Chhatra League members to police in Badalgachhi Upazila of Naogaon on Sunday (September 20) night following a street demonstration.

Local JCD leaders detained Imran Hossain, 21, and Arif Hossain, 23, near the old bridge area. Imran is the son of Emar Hossain from Hatatpara, while Arif is the son of Anwar Hossain from Jidhirpur village in Badalgachhi Sadar Union.

The detention followed an incident on Friday night when members of the banned student organization held a torch procession near the Chhoto Jamuna River Bridge. Video footage of the procession featuring "Joy Bangla" slogans circulated widely on Facebook, sparking anger among local JCD activists.

Mathurapur Union JCD President Md Munsur Ali said the duo participated in torch rallies for months and posted video footage on Facebook. He alleged they planned arson attacks in various areas.

Tension escalated in the locality following recent demonstrations by the banned group. JCD leaders claimed they detained the duo strictly over political activities rather than personal disputes, though they declined to comment on assault allegations.

Badalgachhi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Nazrul Islam confirmed receiving the two suspects and noted they are undergoing interrogation. He added that police arrested Badalgachhi Upazila Jubo League Vice President Monirul Islam Saju in a separate drive the same night.
