A case against Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam and two others has been filed following the death of his second wife at NAM Bhaban in Dhaka.

Police recovered the body of 19-year-old Mst Mariam Khatun, the second wife of Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, from a flat in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar NAM Bhaban. A case alleging abetment of suicide was filed against her husband, his first wife, and a relative.

The victim's father, SM Masum Billah, filed the case.

Police recovered the body from Flat 203 on the third floor of Building 5 in the NAM Bhaban complex on Sunday (September 20) evening. Officers later prepared an inquest report and sent the body to the morgue for an autopsy.

According to the complaint filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, Mariam married MP Gazi Nazrul Islam under Islamic Sharia in June.

The complaint stated that Mariam lived in the NAM Bhaban flat with her husband and his first wife, Mst Maksuda Islam. Mariam informed her family members over the phone on various occasions about physical and mental torture inflicted on her since the marriage. The accused named in the case are MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's uncle Md Obaidur Rahman.

The victim's father stated that the MP called him around 5:30 PM on Sunday to come to the flat quickly. He reached the residence in a CNG auto-rickshaw alongside his sister-in-law Sufia. Upon arrival, he learned that Mariam had hanged herself from a ceiling fan with a scarf inside a locked room.

Police found a handwritten note on the bed inside the room. The note stated, "I bowed to you repeatedly because I fell in love..." and "I went to war with total trust, but I could not win, I lost in the battlefield."

The victim's father alleged that the marriage took place through direct encouragement from his brother-in-law Obaidur Rahman. He stated that Mariam committed suicide after failing to endure physical and mental torture inflicted by the MP and his first wife.

Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Ibne Mizan said legal action will be taken according to the law.
