Husband, pregnant wife killed in Nilphamari road crash

A husband and his pregnant wife were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a motorcycle in Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari on Sunday evening.

The accident occurred around Sunday evening (September 20) on the road in front of Sarmano Cold Storage in the Kharija Golna Dighirpar area of Golna Union.

The deceased were identified as Palash, 19, son of late Hiramba of South Gomnati village in Domar upazila, and his wife Moni Rani, 19, daughter of Mintu Chandra Roy of Kaliganj Dangapara village in Golna Union. Moni Rani was pregnant.

Locals said, Palash and his wife were travelling by motorcycle from Domar to Moni Rani’s parents’ home in Kaliganj when their motorcycle collided head-on with a pickup coming from the opposite direction in the Kharija Golna Dighirpar area.

The couple died on the spot.

Soon after the accident, local residents rushed to the scene and detained the pickup.

Nazmul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jaldhaka Police Station, said the pickup was seized and taken to the police station following the accident.

Further arrangements regarding the bodies would be made based on the family’s decision, he added.
