Zia murder case: Tribunal hearing today on Major Mozaffar

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) is scheduled to hear updates on Wednesday (September 23) regarding the submission of the investigation report against Major (Retd) Mozaffar Hossain, a key accused in the assassination of former President Ziaur Rahman.
A three-member judicial panel led by ICT-2 Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury will conduct the hearing. The other two members of the tribunal are Judge Md Monjurul Basid and Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
Earlier on July 23, the tribunal formally showed Mozaffar Hossain arrested in a crimes against humanity case stemming from the July 2024 mass uprising. The tribunal also permitted the investigation agency to interrogate him for two days in military custody and set September 23 for submitting the progress report.
Following the interrogation, Prosecutor Tanvir Hasan Zoha informed reporters on September 13 that Mozaffar was questioned regarding both the Ziaur Rahman assassination and alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising.
The prosecution previously noted that Mozaffar's involvement emerged during the interrogation of co-accused Retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury regarding violent incidents in Feni during the movement.
After remaining absconding for nearly 45 years, Mozaffar Hossain was arrested from a residence in Dhaka's Banani on July 15 and subsequently handed over to the Military Police at Dhaka Cantonment, where he faces court-martial proceedings related to the 1981 assassination.
