Worker killed as private car mounts Baridhara footpath

The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan, hailing from Sonaray village under Domar Upazila in Nilphamari district.

The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Road 1 in the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone. According to police and CCTV footage, the black private car veered off the road at high speed and ran over Mehedi while he was resting on the pavement during a work break.

Bystanders rushed to the scene, pulled Mehedi's body from under the vehicle, and detained a teenager who was inside the car before handing him over to the police.

Gulshan Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Ismail Hossain confirmed the fatality, stating that the victim's body was recovered and sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. The vehicle was also seized by law enforcement.

However, viral social media video footage of the incident shows two individuals stepping out of the vehicle immediately after the crash—with the teenager wearing a black t-shirt alighting directly from the driver's seat on the right side, accompanied by a middle-aged man from the passenger side. Police stated efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver and clarify the circumstances.
