Government employees and workers across various sectors in Bangladesh will observe a two-day holiday for Durga Puja in 2026, scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, and Wednesday, October 21.

The government declared an executive order holiday for Maha Nabami on October 20, followed by a general holiday for Bijoya Dashami on October 21.

Hindu government employees will also have the option to take two additional days of optional leave on Sunday, October 18 (Maha Saptami) and Monday, October 19 (Maha Ashtami), subject to formal application approval.

Educational institutions will observe holidays according to their respective academic calendars issued by the Ministry of Education, while public and private universities will declare leaves based on their internal schedules.

Banks and financial institutions will remain closed during the two official holidays, though automated teller machines (ATMs), card services, and online banking systems will continue normal operations.

Emergency and essential service personnel—including hospital staff, police, fire service, utility workers, and media professionals—will remain on duty through the holiday period based on institutional requirements.
