Shahjalal Islami Bank Foundation awards scholarships to 400 meritorious students

Shahjalal Islami Bank Foundation has awarded scholarships to 400 underprivileged meritorious students who passed the SSC and equivalent examinations in 2025.
The students, comprising 200 boys and 200 girls, are currently studying at different colleges and higher educational institutions across the country. The foundation will provide a total of Tk 2.2 crore in scholarships over two years to help them complete their studies.
A scholarship cheque distribution ceremony was held at the corporate head office of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC on Wednesday.
A total of 50 scholarship recipients attended the programme in person and received their cheques. The remaining 350 students will receive the scholarship money in their respective bank accounts within the stipulated time.
Shahjalal Islami Bank’s board chairman Mohammad Yunus attended the event as the chief guest, while bank director and Shahjalal Islami Bank Foundation chairman A K Azad was present as the special guest. Managing Director Mosleh Uddin Ahmed presided over the programme.
In his speech, Mohammad Yunus said the scholarship recipients should use their opportunities not only to build successful careers but also to create opportunities for others.
“Your current financial limitations will not determine your future. Your dreams, perseverance, honesty and hard work will determine your future,” he said.
A K Azad said the scholarship was not merely financial assistance but also a symbol of the bank’s trust and confidence in meritorious students.
He urged the students to combine knowledge with honesty, humanity, morality, discipline and patriotism to become responsible citizens and contribute to society and the country.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said education is one of the most important areas of the bank’s social responsibility. He said investment in education has a long-term impact, as an educated person can bring positive changes to the lives of many others.
He expressed hope that the scholarship programme would help financially disadvantaged students continue their education, fulfil their dreams and eventually contribute to society and the country.
The programme was conducted by the bank’s EVP and company secretary Md Abul Bashar.
Representatives of the bank’s board, senior officials, scholarship recipients and their guardians were also present at the event.
