ACC approves separate cases against journalist couple Naem and Farida

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved separate cases against senior journalist Naem Nizam and his wife, former MP Farida Yasmin, over allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income and conducting large financial transactions through bank accounts.

ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan confirmed the decision at the commission's headquarters on Wednesday.

According to the ACC, Naem Nizam is accused of acquiring and possessing assets worth Tk 2.085 crore beyond his known sources of income. He is also accused of conducting transactions totalling Tk 39.39 crore through 19 bank accounts operated in the names of organisations linked to his interests.

The commission has also approved a case against Farida Yasmin for allegedly acquiring assets worth Tk 2.74 crore beyond her known sources of income. She is accused of conducting transactions totalling Tk 21.09 crore through 17 bank accounts operated in the names of organisations linked to her interests.

The cases have been approved under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
