11-month-old rescued 35 hours after abduction, couple arrested

Police have rescued an 11-month-old boy 35 hours after he was allegedly abducted from his cousin in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. A childless couple has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The child, Nafiz Hossain, was rescued from a rented house in the Shibtala area of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.
The arrested couple are Md Manikuzzaman of Hazarbighi village in Shibganj and his wife, Sujiara Begum.
Chapainawabganj Superintendent of Police Gautam Kumar Biswas disclosed the details at a press conference at the SP's office on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, Nafiz was taken to a local market by his cousin Shirin Khatun on September 21. At the time, Sujiara, wearing a burqa, allegedly snatched the child from her.
The child's father, Rubel Hossain, subsequently filed a general diary with Shibganj Police Station. Police then reviewed CCTV footage and conducted an operation using information technology. The child was eventually rescued from a rented house in the Shibtala area on Tuesday night, and the couple were arrested.
The SP said the preliminary investigation suggested that the childless couple abducted the boy with the intention of raising him as their own child. No evidence had been found so far that the child was intended to be sold or that there was any other criminal motive.
However, he said taking the child away forcibly would legally constitute abduction regardless of the motive, and legal action would be taken.
The child's parents expressed relief after being reunited with their son and thanked the police for rescuing him.
