Security tightened nationwide as forces step up operations

Security has been tightened nationalwide as four forces - the Special Response Battalion (SRB), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Detective Branch (DB) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) have stepped up operations in the capital following reports of planned sabotage.

Additional checkpoints have been set up at key entry points and sensitive areas in eastern and western Dhaka, while drone surveillance has also been increased. Security has also been strengthened at key point installations (KPIs) across the country.

The heightened security comes amid information about alleged plans for sabotage in different parts of the capital. Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance and operations to identify those involved and prevent further incidents.

The DB has also found information about new tactics being used in recent cocktail explosions and acts of sabotage in the capital. According to the investigation, individuals were allegedly being offered Tk 5,000 to Tk 10,000 for sending videos of cocktail or hand-bomb explosions.

Law enforcement officials said investigations are continuing to identify the organisers and financiers behind such activities and bring those responsible to justice.
