Police divided over intelligence on banned AL activities

Police officials in Barishal have given differing accounts over intelligence on activities of the banned Awami League, with some claiming they receive little advance information.

Several police officials, speaking anonymously, said the lack of advance intelligence makes it difficult to prevent sudden processions and other activities. They also alleged poor coordination among law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

However, Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Commissioner Abu Rayhan Mohammad Saleh rejected the claim, saying police do receive intelligence and have prevented most such activities.

He said the party mainly organises sudden processions, often involving people from outside the city, making some activities difficult to detect in advance.

The commissioner said police have arrested 70–72 people this month over such activities and that regular operations are continuing.
