Iran offers US seven-day plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iran has proposed a seven-day roadmap to the United States to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

Araghchi disclosed the proposal while speaking to journalists and researchers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.

He said the plan was aimed at implementing a memorandum of understanding reached between Washington and Tehran in June. Under the proposal, the conflict between the two countries would end within a week and the strategic waterway would be reopened if the United States met certain conditions.

Araghchi said Tehran was ready to implement the plan immediately and was awaiting Washington's response through intermediaries.

He also said the proposal would pave the way for the resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States over Tehran's nuclear programme after the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
