'Roid' selected as Bangladesh’s official entry for 99th Oscars

Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s acclaimed feature film ‘Roid’ has been selected as Bangladesh’s official entry for the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

The screenplay was jointly penned by Siddiq Ahmed, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, Zahid Faruk, and Shukorno Shahed Dhiman. Produced under the banners of Bongo and Facecard Production, the film features compelling lead performances by Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi.

Reacting to the news, lead actress Nazifa Tushi stated that the film’s selection could unlock new possibilities for Bangladeshi cinema on the world stage. The creative team behind ‘Roid’ expressed optimism that its Oscar journey will showcase Bangladesh’s rich storytelling, culture, and unique cinematic voice to a global audience.

'Roid' will now officially enter the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' selection process for the International Feature Film category. The nominations for the 99th Oscars are scheduled to be announced on January 21, 2027, with the grand ceremony set to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 14, 2027.
