'Breaking Bad' named best TV show of the 21st century

Popular crime drama series Breaking Bad has been named the best television show of the 21st century in a poll conducted by The New York Times.

The series topped a list of the 100 best TV shows released since January 1, 2000, based on votes from 516 actors, writers, directors and producers from the television industry.

Following Breaking Bad on the list are The Wire, Mad Men, Succession, Fleabag, Game of Thrones, Veep, 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Atlanta.

Airing from 2008 to 2013, Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who turns to producing illegal methamphetamine after being diagnosed with cancer, initially seeking to secure his family’s financial future.

Bryan Cranston played Walter White, while Aaron Paul starred as Jesse Pinkman.

According to The New York Times, the poll was not limited to traditional drama and comedy series. Reality shows, documentaries, talk shows and YouTube series were also considered for the ranking.

The full list was compiled based on the industry professionals’ votes.
