Three held with drugs in two districts

Three drug traders were arrested with various narcotics from Pirojpur District and Phulbari Upazila of Kurigram District in two days.

PIROJPUR: A team of Special Response Battalion (SRB) of Barishal-8, in a drive, recovered four kg of hashish from Panchabati Launchgate area under Nesarabd Upazila of the district on Friday. 

The SRB team also arrested drug peddler Md Elahi Azad, son of late Abdul Mannan of Dakkhin Boya Village under Boldia Union of the upazila. 

Media Officer of SRB-8 Lieutenant Commander Md Shariar Rifat Ovi confirmed the incident. 

PHULBARI, KURIGRAM: Police arrested two drug traders and seized 157 Tapentadol tablets during a late-night anti-drug raid in Phulbari Upazila of the district on Thursday.

The special anti-narcotics team from Phulbari Police Station conducted the operation at 11:30 pm in the Jatindranarayan Abashon Project area. Officers recovered the illegal tablets from Mohammed Wahed Ali, 42, a local resident, and Md Shahidul Islam, 32, from Lalmonirhat Sadar.

Officer-in-Charge of Phulbari Police Station Mahmud Hasan Naim confirmed both suspects have been charged under the Narcotics Control Act and sent to Kurigram jail. He added that police will continue anti-drug operations to keep the area drug-free.
