
BARISHAL, Sept 27: World Maritime Day-2026 was observed at Bangladesh Marine Academy in Barishal on Sunday with various programmes. The day began with a rally joined by cadets and instructors of the academy. A documentary on maritime training in Bangladesh was also screened.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary-General’s message was broadcast at an event held at the academy auditorium. This year’s theme was “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.”
A session titled ‘Cadets’ Talk’ was also held. Speakers stressed the need to implement IMO policies in practice. They said proper training, use of technology, law enforcement and capacity building are essential for safe, efficient and environment-friendly maritime transport.
Captain Abdullah Al Mamun and Marine Engineer Md Faruk Ahmed Khan spoke at the session. Cadets also took part in the discussion. Captain Ameer Md Abu Sufian, acting head of nautical education at Bangladesh Marine Academy, Barishal, addressed the event.
He said the academy is playing an important role in producing skilled mariners for the international maritime sector. He hoped that the academy would continue its efforts in the future.
A special prayer and a feast were also held as part of the day-long programme. Officials, employees, instructors and cadets of the academy attended the events.
