B'desh, Pakistan discuss health sector cooperation

Bangladesh and Pakistan discussed cooperation in the health sector, including finalisation of the proposed MoU, pharmaceuticals and capacity building of health professionals.

Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider called on Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Shakawat Husain on Monday (September 28), when the discussions took place.

The High Commissioner briefed the minister about proposals for collaboration between Bangladesh’s health sector and Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI&RC) and Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in organ transplantation.

Mr. Haider noted that GIMS has offered to train Bangladeshi doctors in liver transplant, support them in subsequent surgeries in Bangladesh and provide post-procedure care through telemedicine.

The two sides also discussed enhancing trade in surgical equipment and pharmaceutical items.

The minister observed that Bangladesh could increase its export of vaccines and cancer medicines to Pakistan. He also invited Pakistani entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s health sector.
