Boeing deal: State Minister cautions Jamaat Ameer

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir has cautioned the Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer against commenting without understanding the government’s plan to purchase Boeing aircraft to expand international flight operations.

He made the remarks at a press conference at the Foreign Ministry on Monday (September 28), following Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Humayun said the Boeing purchase plan is part of Bangladesh’s efforts to increase international flights and strengthen the country’s aviation connectivity.

He stated the prime minister’s UN visit created an important opportunity to present the new government’s commitments and expectations to the global community while expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

According to the state minister, all guests who participated in various meetings and bilateral talks expressed their support for Bangladesh’s new democratic journey.

“Overall, Bangladesh’s participation in this session has been successful,” he added.

He said the prime minister, elected with an overwhelming popular mandate after a long period, raised Bangladesh’s confidence, dignity and self-respect to a new level during the visit.

During the UNGA session, Tarique held bilateral meetings with the presidents of Türkiye and Iran, the vice president of the Maldives, and the prime ministers of Bhutan, Pakistan, Thailand, Croatia and Haiti, as well as the Crown Prince of Kuwait.

He also held courtesy meetings with the UN secretary-general, the World Bank Group president, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN secretary-general’s special envoy on Myanmar, the founder of the International Peace Institute, the head of the Gates Foundation, the CEO of Boeing Global and Wall Street investors.
